WOW! It appears that some of those sleepless nights are worth having when you’re able to come up with such an awesome idea.

The owner of the blog “Over the Crescent Moon” says:

“This is what happens when I have trouble sleeping.

My sleep-deprived mind came up with this project in the middle of the night, at the beginning of last week. Other people count sheep, I wonder if I can use them as a way of growing alfalfa sprouts”.

Our sleepless blog owner came up with this cute little sheep and planted alfalfa seeds in the wool roving once it was needle felted onto its armature.  Then she shows how the alfalfa seeds grew and how they were served. This would make an adorable Easter gift and I’m sure you could make a bunny or an egg sitting in a cup. You could also give the felted character along with the seats and planting instructions.

They show you how to make the little Lamb, plant the seeds, let them grow and then consume them. What a healthy a little snack offered up by a lamb.  Please go to “over the Crescent Moon” for complete instructions on creating your little lamb Alfalfa sprouter.

You are so welcome, I love your idea of the felt lamb growing goodies. I think I will try one, but I have to get the seed :) What an awesome Easter gift!

Not to be a party pooper, but I don’t know if I would EAT the sprouts grown on that wool. They use some pretty icky chemicals to wash the wool, and I am sure the sprouts would contain those chemicals after growing.
I do think it is fun idea in general, and fun to watch them grow, just don’t eat them.

I don’t know about the chemicals used to wash the wool, but I do buy my wool from The Waldorf Supply catalog, so it is meant to be used for children’s toys and art projects.
Is it really bad if children put needle felted toys in their mouths?

Here is an article about wool and how safe it is. It appears to be safe:
