Adventure Bags (No. 112)

Because these bags are unstructured, they must be worn like garments – they come alive on the body. The soft drape of each bag makes it relaxed enough to travel with you on any adventure, from the urban landscape, to a long anticipated evening out, to a spontaneous jaunt for a long weekend.

These bags are all very simple in their basic construction. Perfect for the beginning to experienced knitter. The only challenge, besides not being scared of how huge the Weekend Adventure bag is before you felt it, is putting the zipper in well, The pattern, however, includes detailed instructions, so don’t let the zipper closure scare you away. You will love wearing these bags!

Shirley Poppies (No. 212)

Shirley Poppies (Papaver rhoeas) are flowers that are as tenacious as they are delicate. They will start to grow in winter, even as there is snow or frost still on the ground. When the weather warms, the poppy plants begin to grow quickly and by late may they are covered with blooms: white with red tips, red with pink centers, pink with yellow centers. . . the combinations are many and all of them are beautiful. Their petals are soft as silk and more delicate than the finest gauzy tissue cottons. They withstand so much yet hate to be picked, wilting quickly.

This pattern allows the intrepid knitter to bring the beauty of the Shirley Poppy inside to stay. I have replicated in this pattern some of my favorite poppy color combinations as well as their buds and seed pods to that you might make a bouquet that is as wild and wonderful as the poppies in the garden.

Cherry Blossom Bags (No. 113)

These bags were inspired by the delicate majesty of the Japanese cherry blossoms in Washington, DC. The 3,000 original trees were gifted by the people of Tokyo in 1912. Every Spring at the beginning of April we wait for the pale pink and white blossoms to open. Just Fuchsias (No. 208)

This pattern is currently out of print but may still be available from your local yarn shop or one of the online stores.

This is a delicate, beautiful, flower that will make any bag, gift box, sweater, or jacket more lovely with its presence. Fuchsias are complex, layered flowers that come in a seemingly endless array of color combinations. While this pattern offers only two colorways (both of which can be found in nature), you will likely begin to think of more possibilities as soon as you start to knit. Made with a single strand of worsted weight yarn, this flower is delicate once felted. Choose to make only a single flower on a single stem, or multiple flowers on one stem.

Pattern Difficulty Level: Intrepid beginner/Intermediate-Advanced. These flowers can be accomplished by anyone who knows how to knit and purl. However, they do require use of small holders, double-pointed needles, and short rows.

Cascading Fuchsias Market Bag (No. 114)

In these days when many are trying to reduce their carbon footprints, driving hybrid cars, and taking shorter showers, it’s nice to have a great-looking shopping bag for the market. I’ve designed three different sizes for those differently sized visits to the farmer’s stand or grocery store. Small for those times when you only need butter, chocolate, and heavy cream for that delectable dessert; Medium when you need fruit, a few select cheeses, and a bottle of wine or sparkling water; and Really Big for those trips to the Farmer’s market and all the tasty treats you find there: organic tomatoes, fresh goat cheese, scones made this morning, and other lovelies. Unlike its cousins, the really big bag has two handles that slant toward each other, so it can be carried easily in your hand or over your arm, and it won’t tip all your cargo out onto the floor.

The cascading fuchsias turn these unstructured, easy-to-make bags into sculptural works of art. Let your creativity take the lead as you dream up wonderful combinations (all found in nature) for this botanically-correct version of the fuchsia. Then twist and twine long I-cord stems to make beautiful designs on your unique market bag.

The Unfurling Rose (No. 203)

This pattern is currently out of print but may still be available from your local yarn shop or one of the online stores. Another one of Noni’s most popular patterns, the unfurling rose is the most sculptural Noni flower. It can be as audacious as the camellia, or as subtle as the jasmine flower. It can appear a rose just unfurled, or one that hides nothing.

Put one toward one end of your sassy tube baguette. Put two on the smallish carpet bag. Put them all around the top of your lattice bag. Put them together with all the other flowers in a wreath or on a Noni backpack. The possibilities are as endless as the rose’s beauty is boundless.

The Tulip Tote is modeled after my most favorite of toting-things-around-anywhere bags. It is roomy enough to pack with a lot of groceries, a picnic, or to fill with delicacies from your favorite dress shop… Or use it even as a day trip/travel bag. Oh, and don’t be surprised when people stare — believe me, they will!

The handles are knitted as part of the bag and are long enough to go over your shoulder, but not so long that you can’t carry the bag by your side. It is embellished with tulips, as many or as few as you would like. Now the Tulip Tote is my new favorite toting bag and I hope it will be your new favorite too.

Winter interest they call it when you plant shrubs in the garden that yield up beautiful orange, red, or white berries in fall. This bag offers winter interest all right!
