A Tool Bag for Kip and My New Messenger Bag

May 20, 2008 by Linda Lanese

There was one gentleman that entered the Noni Pattern, yarn and Frame giveaway and I just could not allow him to be ignored.  I got to meet him and presented this bag you see to him.  He was in Special Forces with the Army and Marines for seven years and tried to learn to crochet and he wanted to try for the purse.  When I emailed him I found out that he lived near us and asked him to stop over and pick up his “You Have Got Nerve” prize.  My friend Carol did this prototype diaper bags in Alpaca and it was huge, so I needle felted Kip’s name and dared him  to wear it onto the construction site and he did.  That takes a real self-assured guy and he is that.  Congratulations Kip enjoy your tool bag.

My New Bag

I also knit another purse from the Noni’s “The Confections” and used another brand of yarn I will not mention.  The felting turned out much loftier than the Cascade 2200 although it is still lovely.   I used no decreasing while knitting and ended on 40th roll, binding off the front and sides and then continued with a flap a little less than half the length of the front and crocheted a black disc and felted that.  At each side I picked up 5 stitches and knitted up enough stitches to form a loop and then slipped a D ring and sewed the loop down and felted with the D ring.   I used heavy leather lacing for the shoulder strap.  Now you can see how diverse Noni’s patterns are and I wanted to take advantage of the purchase price of my new needles I bought for the Confection purse.
