Day on the Alpaca Farm

August 6, 2008 by Linda Lanese

Alpacas join in to raise money!

The Tenth Annual Day on the Alpaca Farm will be held Saturday, August 30, from 10 am-3 pm at KeLe Alpacas. The public is invited to tour the alpaca farm, enjoy live music by Homebrew and Jay Stage’r, visit with a number of area breeders, walk an alpaca through the mini woods and this year enjoy an Art Show sponsored by Artbeet. As in past years there will be spinning, weaving and felting demonstrations where participants can try it themselves. There will also be children’s games, face painting, bubbles to blow and more.

The Day on the Alpaca Farm is a fundraiser for the Violence Intervention Project (VIP) which provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Kewaunee County. There is no charge for the event, but people are encouraged to make a donation. To date, over $10,000 has been raised for VIP.

The alpacas do their part for the event by taking walks with visitors, giving kisses and being a great photo opportunity. Just watching them in the pasture has been known to lower the blood pressure. Alpacas are originally from South America and have been in the United States since 1984. They are raised for their fiber, which is stronger, softer and warmer then wool. It is used to make garments that most people can wear next to their skin, unlike sheep’s wool.

The Artbeet Art Show will feature area artists selling and demonstrating their art. Artbeet is a non-profit organization set up to promote the arts in Kewaunee County. To raise money to support their events and projects, there will be a silent auction of the artist’s work.

KeLe Alpacas, E1870 Pine Grove Road, is located 2 miles south of Hwy. 29, 15 miles east of Green Bay. Due to construction, watch for signs. For more information, contact LeAnna at 920-845-5571.
