Prayer Flags; part 1-2-3-4 tutorials

April 28, 2014 by Linda Lanese

Payer Flagsprayer flags for mom

Kelley of “One January Day” has is fascinating series on making “Prayer Flags” in four parts (see bottom of post for links).  I found it mesmerizing and wanted to share her tutorials and knowledge with you.  With the world in such chaos maybe we would like to hang a flag or two with a prayer for peace.  I was thinking about making mom a few flags with special prayers for happiness and thanks for being such a great mom.  As you can see when you go to “One January Day” that the flags are made of any material and can be hung the way you like.  Kelly also has some history about The Peace Flag Project is based on the Prayer Flags of Tibet 2000 years ago! The 5 colors of the prayer flags represent the 5 basic elements:

Yellow for earth

Green for water

Red for fire

White for air

Blue for limitless space (or mind)

Sometimes orange is also included – likely for healing

I prayer verse for mom:

“May the sun bring you new energy by day

May the moon softly restore you by night

May the rain wash away your worries

May the breeze blow new strength into your being

May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life.”
