I have to say I’m a big fan of this tutorial, I actually made one of these minions myself a while back and then promptly forgot all about this awesome page! But I’m making up for it now and sharing the love with you all! This is such a great project, I’ve yet to come across anyone who doesn’t know what Minions are and generally everyone knows someone who would enjoy one on their shelf!
Over at Craft Passion you can follow along with the very clear, step by step photos on how to create a minion of your own!
A project like this one can really take you out of your comfort zone, so if you have been working in one field, like realistic dogs or felted flowers, you will really learn some new techniques here. Myself I tend to just make jointed bears so making something like this which is so sculpted and requires layering things up and adding dark colours on top of light etc, this really tests your skills.
And I’m all about testing the skills and learning the limits of the craft we love, because we often get asked to make things outside our comfort zone for friends and family. Extending yourself now might mean that next time your niece asks for a unicorn or your best friend begs you for a Pokemon or something else from a popular show, you might get a great idea on how it can be done as soon as they ask! I’d much rather be interested in trying something new than fall into it with fear and loathing! lol
I hope you will have a go at this great project, here’s a picture of one of my creations after I was inspired to have a go myself! I made two of these little guys and then added a felted balloon on a wire ‘string’ to his hand, which helped them to stand as mine were quite small! So much fun!
If you missed the link to the tutorial here it is again! Check out Craft Passion and do scroll down as the project starts further down the page than you might expect but it is there, I promise!
Happy felting!
