What a wonder opportunity for those of you who can make it to this outstanding event. Jorie Johnson, Felter extraordinaire, will be in San Francisco! The Surface Design Association is sponsoring this extraordinary opportunity to learn from one of the most celebrated Felter’s working today. The Art Institute of California-San Francisco will be hosting the event. Jorie Johnson’s exceptional work is in the permanent collection of Museums and was featured in the 2005 exhibition Artwear: Fashion & Anti-Fashion at the DeYoung Museum. She has work in the upcoming Fashioning Felt at the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco. http://www.sfmcd.org/exhibt_next.htm Fashioning Felt was curated by the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. Jorie will be teaching a 2 day version of her “Feltmaker’s Bag of Tricks” for SDA members and guests which will include one day of motif exercises (concepts that make 2-D felt fabrics have more surface) followed by a one day where we take this surface experimentation into the 3-D form producing a small shifted shape vessel or pouch. The workshop will be held on October 23rd & 24th at The Art Institute of California-San Francisco, 1170 Market Street. Cost of the class is $250 for SDA members, $225 for AI students and $280 for guests. To see some of Jorie’s work please visit, http://www.joirae.com/. She is featured on the cover and in an article on page 20 of the Winter 2010 Surface Design Journal.
