Amelia Makes Art

I am impressed with Amelia’s felting art and on how realistic her pets are and I can see why her ETSY shop “Amelia Makes Art” is so popular.   Several years ago I did the same type of thing in clay and people just love to have their pet’s immortalized through art.  Amelia lives in Oregon and she has a true talent with felt.  When you visit her blog or ETSY shop, it is difficult to tell the living pets from the felted ones except for their size.   She creates your pets from photographs of yours, or a friends pet.  She also has some very lovely felted soap.Amelia is talents do not end with felting; she is also an accomplished painter and sells her work in her shop. Amelia:“I am in love with making these little needle felted dogs and would love to make one for you! I can make a dog of the breed you love or I can make a portrait of your dog from photos you would email me.

Each little pooch is sculpted out of Icelandic and Merino wool. The technique is needle felting and uses a special barbed needle tool to create the form. Each dog is one of a kind and sculpted in fiber like one would sculpt clay. There is no sewing, stuffing or pattern of any kind.

Small breeds average 6″ tall by 7″ long, large breeds about 7″ x 10″

You can also find non-commissioned needle felted dogs in my shop from time to time.

So write to me if you are interested and we can get a portrait of your fur kid in the making. I make cats too!”

I sent her a $500+ payment for some custom work to be done by Christmas. Came up with a lame excuse why should couldnt finish in time, so I allowed her to still make them and send them out asap. She has not answered any of my emails since about a refund.

My dog club, Norwich Terrier Club of Northern California, paid Amelia Santiago in full for a felted dog item. We offered it as a raffle item at our Specialty in April 09. The winner of the raffle submitted the photos of her dog for Amelia to make her the promised item. After some communications and promised time to deliver the item, Amelia stopped communicating and did not return either emails or phone calls. I have also attempted to communicate with her and have not received any response. I requested a refund or the item to be delivered immediately. I plan to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in OR. I noted there is another complaint on file for her with the BBB for the same problem. She takes money and does not deliver the product.
