Nikola went to the farm to see the animals up close, but she so a group of women making fuzzy hats and poking crazy needles into the fluffy pieces of fiber. She relates that she almost knocked everyone over to get a closer look at the women and what they were making. From that time she was hooked on felting. She was fascinated with all the things you could make with wool fiber hot water and a little soap. Poke it with needles and within minutes you have a wonderful piece of art. Well it was almost enough to make her want to devote her life to exploring felt. She had always been part of the Indie-crafts movement, but into more traditional crafting until she discovered that you could make felt items with a funky urban twist that would knock people socks off. Now Nikola and co-author Brookelynn Morris invite us into their magical world of felting with their new book that will be released in a few days. The name of this book is “Feltique”. They have pictured magnificent projects for us to try in this wonderful book. The illustrations are beautiful as is the entire hard covered book. Each project is laid out for us so we can easily understand and follow the instructions. They also have a vast array of projects using felt in several different ways. Such as; Wet felting, a process involving heat, moisture, and agitation, requires only a little soap, hot water, and elbow grease. Needle felting, in which you turn wool fiber into needle felt by merely pricking it with a felting needle, is like sculpting with wool. Fulling, the process of knitting or crocheting a garment and then agitating it in hot water and soap, creates a strong, durable wool fabric. There are also some projects using commercial felt that you’ll want to try such is the stunning necklace featured on the cover of their book. You will be surprised as to what you can actually make with felt. Like gorgeous thirsty coasters or flower trimmed hat. There is a pattern for a pillbox hat in this book that you will definitely want to try, I know I will. They also lay out basic knitting and crocheting techniques for us, so if you are not a knitter or you have never tried crochet it is clearly laid out so you can begin a new journey in crafting. There are more than 45 unique projects in this book for you to try. Each one of the 45 projects are quick and doable. Now everyone, here is our wonderful gifts from Nikola Davidson and Brookelynn Morris co-author of Feltique. Brookelynn put together five stunning felting kits to giveaway to my readers. While I know logically that comment number one has just as much a chance in a random number drawing as any other, I still find myself shying away from it. How weird. Perhaps someone else will comment whilst I’m writing.
Felt is one of those materials I’ve toyed with, dreamed about, but ultimately never pushed myself into headfirst as I should. What you’ve said and what I’ve seen of this book, however, makes me thing it could be the shove I need.
Amber says
Felt intrigues me. I’d like to have some projects to learn how to manipulate it.
Omi Gray says
I am glad to know that all the different types of felting techniques are included this book.

I’ve sewn Christmas ornaments with already made commercial felt, and they were well received by people. Yet I’ve never done any actual felting myself, although one of my fellow crafters SWEARS by wet felting fibers into rugs. I’m intrigued by the idea of wet felting – anything involving water should be fun!
Sylvia says
The necklaces on the cover of the book is enough to make me want to see it! Lovely.
Jaimie says
I work with felt very rarely and would love to learn the techniques used in this book. 🙂

I love working with felt – it is such wonderful textile with so much opportunity for creativity and the element of surprise as it is transformed. I have made some felt from fleece and sewn Waldorf/Steiner toys/crafts with woolen felt and always gets lots of oohs and ahhs from children and adults. I can see from the cover and title that Nikola is sharing something unique and I am intrigued to find out where her creativity has led her and what I could do too.

You’ve made the book sound perfect and, as others have noted, the cover looks wonderful. I’d love to be able to create works of art like that.

All the felting directions I’ve seen are for cute little animals or country style home decor. I would love to use felting to make something fun and interesting to wear. the idea of felting earrings is especially cool, because I love big earrings, but my ears don’t like the weight. Felt earrings would be awesome!
Tricia says

I have always enjoyed using felt in Christmas and other seasonal projects. I would love to learn how to do wool felting to make penny rugs, and jewelry, or ornaments to decorate my house. I have always used kits with pre-felted wool for penny rugs and holiday wall decorations. The craft of using felting more sounds very interesting to me. This book would make learning new techniques for felting more challenging!
EJ says
Judging this book both by its cover and your description makes it unbeatable. Can’t wait to see it.

I have just made my first felted bag and I LOVE this technique. I’m beginning to see why people say it’s addictive. I’ve love to learn more and it seems the book would be perfect!

The necklaces on the cover intrigued me to actually read the above review. That, and the fact that this book is not excluding commercial felt and also because most ‘felting’ books only cover one process. I love working with felt regardless of its form or process and will look for it in my local bookstore. Thanks for offering this review and giveaway!

Both my teenage daughters needle felt and love it. There aren’t a whole lot of books available on the subject, or wet felting, so all new books intrigue me!

Though I have been a knitter for years, only a couple of years ago did I discover felting my knitted projects. Oooh. I’ve fulled knit projects before using the washing machine, but have never done any other method of felting. I just bought some bats and needle felting needles yesterday, and was hoping to find a good book to teach me how to use them, and now I see this blog post! How opportune is that? Even if I don’t have the luck to win the contest, I’m grateful to have found out about the new book. Amazon will be getting another order from me.
Thanks for the great post!

This book seems like it would be a good combo book of all things felt. It looks like a book I would pick up because the cover shows different types of felt projects. The necklace on the front looks very nifty with how they used like a line. I normaly buy book who have about 3-4 patterns in it , so far from what I have seen there are at least three that look like I would want to do. I find the whole process of felting intriging. At the moment Needle felting is my passion but the wet felted scarf on the cover looks beauiftul to where I might try and make it.
Elaine says
My grandaughter does a lot of needlefelting and she’d like this book a lot.
