Beginner Basics, needle felting – new Method

September 22, 2021 by Liza Adams

You might already know that a good way to learn to needle felt shapes is to work with cookie cutters.  When you load the cutter with fibre you can then needle inside the shape to create a nice thick 2d shape.  In the following Wiki article though I found a new idea, using sewing pins with heads to help you create a shape!

This little article also has some short clips and tips to help you learn more!

I did find the instructions toward the end a little lacking, more something to give you ideas about how to create animals rather than actual steps showing you how.  But you get the idea.

Wiki How isn’t somewhere I would have even thought to look for tips on needle felting, so perhaps you haven’t come across this one either!  Hope you find it inspirational and helpful.  Felting little shapes can be the beginning of a wonderful project.

Like this one using a cookie cutter, but now you also know you can actually make it any shape you like!  Just use a piece of foam under the fabric and pins to create the shape!

Or what about something like this?  You could make dryer balls from wool and felt your premade shapes onto those!  You could also make Christmas ornaments this was as well!

One of the many reasons I love needle felting, there are so many options!  Every little tip and trick you learn along your journey ends up helping you to have your own unique take on the craft.  And you never stop learning, there is always something new to learn and share with others!  I love teaching this craft so if you ever need help or advice just drop a comment and I promise I will get back to you!  🙂

I hope you have found this useful!

Happy felting!
