Fine Felt Tutorial

September 7, 2007 by Linda Lanese

Here is a very neat site “SALVESEN HOME PAGE” on felted that shows you step by step how to make a lovely lace felted scarf.   Following photos show some of the steps in making fine felt scarves. There are many variations in technique and design, however. Experiment! There is also a slide-show that is very in-depth with each step. I am going to try this method and I will show you my scarf when complete. Look around this site because it is filled with wonderful felters and their art.

    Hi Linda,

Got your email. Yup, that’s my felt tutorial. A friend and I put it together a few years ago after so many of our fiber friends started asking about how we made our felt scarves. I get a lot of messages about the tutorial from people around the world who are exploring felt on the internet.

Glad to hear you found my tutorial useful. There is also a great feltmakers email discussion group run by Pat Sparks, a felt artist and teacher in Oregon. Folks can subscribe (free) at this page: http://www.peak.org/~spark/feltlistFAQ.html

This North American Feltmakers Network page that Pat Sparks owns is a great resource for novice and experienced feltmakers alike. Check it out!

    Cheers,
    Anna

    Anna,

I am sure everyone will find your tutorial very easy to follow and I hope to see some finished scarves. I plan on trying one. Now I have to get a long enough piece of bubble wrap 🙂 Thanks again!

    Linda

Wow! this is great. I took my first felting class about a month ago and loved it. Everyone else was making a bag and I wanted to make a hat. The instructor said go for it but warned me it wasn’t as easy to do. I my hat turned out great! She said I was a natural. I used blue and black marino wool to have a mixture. I love trying things and this just was fun and creative. I am going to try making a scarf for a friend who loves funky looking things. I have some of the white merino wool and some spare scraps of other yarn and wool. I wasn’t sure what to do with them until I saw this tutorial. Thank you so much for passing this on.
    Christine
