Free Felting Tutorial Friday: Happy Little Felted Christmas Trees

October 30, 2026 by Shellie Wilson Leave a Comment

This week’s Free Felting Tutorial Friday is a true holiday favourite — the Happy Little Felted Christmas Trees from Living Felt. These delightful little trees are soft, sculptural, and full of handmade charm — the kind of project that makes you want to pour a cup of cocoa, put on a Christmas movie, and spend the afternoon felting.

The free tutorial comes with a full PDF guide showing you how to create these textured felted trees using wet felting techniques. You’ll build up wool layers to form beautiful, organic “branches,” giving each tree a unique personality — from snowy white to forest green to frosted silver.

A Cozy Forest of Your Own

What makes this project extra special is how simple it is to adapt. You can make tiny tabletop trees, medium-sized decorations for your mantel, or even larger centrepieces to display among your holiday décor. Each tree takes on its own natural shape as you felt, so no two ever look the same — just like in nature.

You’ll also find this project to be a wonderful introduction to resist felting and shaping. The tutorial includes helpful step-by-step instructions and visuals to guide you from soft wool to beautifully firm, layered felt.

Why You’ll Love This Tutorial

  • It’s beginner-friendly and perfect for festive crafting.

  • You’ll learn wet felting and resist techniques in one project.

  • The results are beautiful, sculptural trees you’ll treasure for years.

  • It’s a relaxing, meditative craft for the holiday season.

Whether you stick to traditional Christmas colours or experiment with icy blues, snowy whites, or deep pine greens, these trees make gorgeous handmade gifts and winter decorations. They also look wonderful grouped together in a forest-style display.

My Felting Tip

When shaping your trees, use gentle but firm pressure while felting — it helps define each “branch layer” without flattening it. And if you want a touch of sparkle, try blending a few fibres of white silk or angelina fibre into your wool before felting.

So grab your wool, some warm water, and maybe a few fairy lights — and let’s make a forest of cheerful little trees to fill your home with handmade Christmas joy. I’ll see you next week for another Free Felting Tutorial Friday, full of cozy, creative inspiration.
